MTV’s Newport Harbor Episode 3 “In It For The Chase”

With the ‘Pretty In Pink‘ party a not so distant memory, it seems like the drama in Newport Harbor is almost inevitable. Chase meets up with his girlfriend Taylor at the beach and she asks to look at his phone. Annoyed because he feels like she is always checking up on him, he tells her that he thinks they need to take a break from their relationship. She agrees with him that their relationship is getting kind of intense, and that it might be a good idea for the two of them to spend some more time with their friends.

Meanwhile Clay and Grant are cruising around Newport when Clay asks Grant what his ideal girl is like. Grant starts listing off the qualities he looks for in a member of the opposite sex and Clay points out that he is basically describing the newly single Taylor. Unaware that she has broken up with Chase, Grant decides that it would be a good idea to try to rekindle things with her.

Chrissy and Sasha are also cruising Newport, but on their bicycles as they talk about Chrissy’s history with Clay. When Chrissy tells Sasha that she hasn’t seen him since Allie’s ‘Pretty In Pink’ party, Sasha says the reason they can never connect is because Clay always seems distracted by other girls. Sasha points out that there is no reason Chrissy shouldn’t be distracted by other guys. When Chrissy tells Sasha that Chase visited her earlier in the day, Sasha warns her to look out for Chase because he is definitely a player.

That evening Taylor and Grant meet for dinner and a chance to catch up. Both Taylor and Grant are flirting with each other throughout the evening and agree to hit up Taylor’s afterwards for a hot tub session. During their entire time together, Taylor keeps receiving phone calls from Chase that she continuously ignores. Bummed that Taylor is ignoring him, Chase heads over to Chrissy’s house to watch a movie. As they snuggle up onto the couch to each other, Chase smiles and asks Chrissy if her dad is around, they smile at each other and continue to watch the movie.

The next day Chase gets a visit at work from Allie’s friend Samantha. After some small talk Chase reveals to Samantha that he hooked up Chrissy during his most recent visit to her house. At that same moment Chrissy is also confessing her hook-up to Clay’s best friend Grant at the beach. Chrissy tells Grant that he is not allowed to tell Clay about the hook-up and Clay reluctantly agrees. The gossip continues to spread later that afternoon when Grant breaks the news he promised to keep secret to Clay. Clay is silent when he finds out about Chrissy and Chase’s hook-up and can only mutter ‘I can’t believe Chase and Chrissy are hooking up.’

A little while later Taylor and Chrissy bump into each other while shopping for clothes at a local boutique. Before too long, Chrissy comes clean about her recent hook-up with Taylor’s ex Chase. Taylor confirms that she no longer with Chase and that the hook-up doesn’t bother her since she recently went on a date with Grant. The two girls begin to hit it off and make plans to crash a poker game that Grant is throwing later that evening.

The poker game is already underway at Grant’s house when Chrissy and Taylor arrive. Taylor gets a huge hug from Grant as soon as she walks in the door, but Chrissy’s response from Clay is not as warm. Chrissy stands in the background as the game goes on with Clay not even acknowledging her presence. When she makes an attempt to talk to him he gets up from the table and goes outside alone.

The next day Chase and Taylor meet up for the first time since their break-up. Chase tells Taylor that he knows that she went out with Grant, and tells her that if it was anyone else then it would be ok, but since it is with his rival in Newport he feels like he has been stabbed in the back. Taylor tries to ask him about the numerous times he’s cheated on her but Chase keeps bringing the conversation back to her and Grant. The conversation continues to go in circles before Chase stops it and tells Taylor he is done talking about it, she gets out of his car and he drives away.

Over on the water ferry, Samantha dishes all of the recent dirt to Allie, who is hearing about all of the new hook-ups for the first time. Allie smiles and says that Chrissy can have Case as long as she can have Clay.

Clay is shooting hoops by himself in his driveway as Chrissy pulls up on her bicycle. He asks her if she’s been hanging out with Chase a lot, she assures him that they are just friends and that the other night was a one-time thing that will never happen again. Clay tells her that he thinks that it was stupid that she didn’t come to him first, and that he had to find out from Grant. Chrissy tells him that she hopes he still wants to hang out with her, and Clay responds with an unenthusiastic maybe. As Chrissy begins to ride away on her bicycle, she tells Clay to call her sometime; he continues to play basketball and does not even respond.
